About Sarba and Cactus Intertie

SARBA, or Saguaro Amateur Remote Base Association is a Phoenix based affiliate of the Cactus Intertie System. We have approximately 100 members in Central Arizona and maintain a private system of linked radios on multiple mountain-top sites. Membership is by invitation only, but if you are interested in advanced repeater and remote base stations, antenna and tower adventures, and sharing experiences with technically oriented Amateurs, we are interested in you.

The Cactus Intertie System is a private Amateur Radio system consisting of a large number of remotely controlled base stations, or “Remote Base” for short, that are interconnected utilizing full duplex links. This linked system covers large portions of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Texas. Additional coverage is available in the Washington D.C. and the surrounding areas of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware on a full time basis. Additional coverage is also available on a full time basis in the Atlanta, Georgia and the Kalispell, Montana area.

Cactus Intertie, Inc., is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.  Also known as “Cactus Radio” or the “Cactus Intertie”, along with its affiliate clubs and organizations build, own, operate and maintain the remote bases throughout most of the United States. Most of these systems are accessed using locally coordinated channels in the 70 cm spectrum and are located on mountain peaks that provide wide area coverage.  The early development of and adherence to high technical commercial standards in the RF equipment, audio tailoring and the system controller requirements, has made the Cactus Intertie System the most reliable and best sounding linked system in the nation.

The remote bases owned, operated, and maintained by Cactus Intertie, Inc. are primarily funded by donations and membership.  Mountain top radio space/rent, as well as radio equipment doesn’t come without on-going costs.  Therefore, it is important to maintain a healthy and supportive membership in order for the continued enjoyment of this fabulous and historic hobby.  Furthermore, our mission is to provide public support, especially for approved public events and emergency/disaster communications; thus our desire for all members to be involved in supporting the organization.

If our organization appeals to your values and you have a desire to be more involved in both the hobby and public support, please visit our “Membership” page for more information.  Or, if you simply wish to donate to our non-profit organization, please contact us using the “Contact” page for more information.
